WHO WE ARE

We Are IRL (“we” or “us”) provides a space for families to pledge to delay giving their children access to smartphones and other social media. We are committed to protecting the privacy of personal information gathered from our community through our website (https://www.weareirl.org/) (the “Site”). We have created this privacy policy (“Privacy Policy”) to communicate our practices regarding the collection and dissemination of your personal information.  Please read it carefully.

WHAT THIS PRIVACY POLICY COVERS

This Privacy Policy covers personal information you provide to us when you visit our Site, including when you sign up to receive emails from us and when you sign thePledge.

The term “personal information” as used in this Privacy Policy refers to information that can be used to identify an individual, directly or indirectly, alone or together with other information. This includes, for example, your name, email address, and phone number, and can also include your location, IP address, device ID, and other network identifiers.

This Privacy Policy does not apply to information that you provide to third parties through their applications or websites, including your social media accounts and other locations you can access from links posted on our Site. These third parties likely have their own privacy policies, which we encourage you to read before you provide information to them. Please note that we are not responsible for the privacy practices of third parties.

WHAT PERSONAL INFORMATION WE COLLECT

Signing the Pledge.We collect personal information from you when you sign the Pledge on our Site, including your name and email address. We also collect some personal information about the child on whose behalf you are signing the Pledge, including the child’s first and last name, grade, and school.      

Signing Up for Emails. We collect your email address when you sign up on our Site to receive email updates about our efforts and information about local events.

WHAT PERSONAL INFORMATION WE DISPLAY

When you sign the Pledge on behalf of your child, we display certain information on the Pledge page of our Site (https://www.weareirl.org/pledgeforum). We allow Chapter Administrators to choose what information to display. Depending on your IRL Chapter, the following information may be displayed: (i) the first name and last initial of the child you are signing on behalf of, (ii) the first and last initials of the child you are signing on behalf of, or (iii) a total number representing the number of children in the grade or school enrolled in the Pledge. Where a child’s first name and last initial or first and last initials would be displayed, you have the option to sign the Pledge on behalf of a child whose identity will be listed as “anonymous.” In all cases, the child’s information is displayed according to the child’s school and grade.

WHO WE SHARE YOUR DATA WITH

We generally will not disclose personal information with anyone outside of our organization other than our general administrative team, our service providers (such as our website administrators and developers and cloud-based hosting platforms) and the Chapter Administrator for your respective chapter. However, we may disclose your information to third parties in the following circumstances:

  • to respond to any governmental inquiries or requests to disclose specific information that we believe to be lawful, responding to a court order, when required by law for other purposes, to enforce our Site policies, or to protect our or others; rights, property or safety; and
  • in connection with undertaking or preparing for a business transaction, such as a fundraiser or for other donation purposes, or any sale, merger, reorganization or transfer of all or a part of We Are IRL.

HOW YOUR DATA IS PROTECTED

We use commercially reasonable measures to protect the security of your personal information. Still, the internet is not completely secure, and we cannot guarantee or promise that your use of the Site will be completely safe. We cannot and do not guarantee the security of your personal information from unauthorized use or alteration, and there is always a risk inherent in the electronic communication and storage of information.

WHAT RIGHTS YOU HAVE OVER YOUR DATA

You can request that we delete any personal information that we hold about you by emailing us at [email protected]. This does not include any data we are required to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

You can opt-out from receiving email communications from us by:

  1. Following the “unsubscribe” instructions located near the bottom of each of our emails; or
  2. Contacting usat [email protected].

INFORMATION COLLECTED USING TECHNOLOGY

We want you to be aware that when you use the Site, certain information is automatically collected about you and your online activities. This information includes:

Identification – date and time of each visit to the Site, history of visits, and other personalized services including, but not limited to, event registrations;

Device – your IP address, internet domain name, browser type, operating system, and mobile network; and

Location – your general geographic location can be determined by your IP address.

For our Chapter Administrators, we use a session cookie – a small text file that lasts only for the time you open a session on the Site – so that the Site can recognize you as an administrator.  The cookie and the information that it collects is deleted when the session ends.

CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY

We may modify or supplement this Privacy Policy at any time, and reserve the right to do so without notice. You acknowledge that your continued use of the Site and/or continued provision of personal information to us after we publish an updated Privacy Policy will be considered an acknowledgment and acceptance of any changes to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to the modified Privacy Policy, you should discontinue your use of this Site. We will notify you about material changes to this Privacy Policy by either sending a notice to the email address you provided to us and/or by placing a prominent notice of modifications to the Privacy Policy on this page. We encourage you to periodically review this Privacy Policy for any changes.
